PHASE II – SHORT TERM GOALS

 

  • Starting of Ph.D. (Doctor of Philosophy) programme in different subjects of Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Dentistry and Allied Health Sciences like Pharmacy, Nursing, Physiotherapy and Ayurveda. Establishment of Basic Research Laboratory. Emphasis on Inter-disciplinary research involving faculties other than Health Sciences.
  • Starting of new academic programmes in priority areas where permission of Statutory Councils is not required and where sufficient infrastructure is available.

    • Revision of the course content every three years with inclusion of relevant topics and projection of the entire course  content on the University website.
    • Compilation of Staff Portfolio with inclusion of points scored for academic and professional attainments. Emphasis on Self Appraisal of teachers and students Feedback on the performance of the teacher.
    • Emphasis on Total Quality Management (TQM) by ensuring quality of teachers and students as well as, quality of tools used for evaluation or assessment of performance of the students. Encouragement to students scholastic ability and sharpened skills.
    • Establishment of Institute of Clinical Research and Institute of Public Health and commencement of Post-Graduate Degree, Diploma and Certificate programmes thereunder. Emphasis on Clinical Research and Clinical Trials – Formation of Ethics Committee, University Monitoring Committee for Clinical Research and Trials and establishment of Site Management Organisation (SMO).
    • Creation of highly talented human resource for undertaking clinical trials for new chemical entities and new drug delivery systems.
    • Establishment of Lasik Centre in Ophthalmology Department of KLES Hospital.
    • Further expanding and strengthening the network of Primary and Satellite Health Centres and bringing them in the ambit of tele-health network of KLE Hospital.
    • Establishment of new Departments of Medical Biotechnology, Medical Bio-informatics, Alternative Medicine and Sports Medicine and starting of new PG Degree and Diploma Courses and Certificate programs thereunder. Starting of new Post-Graduate programmes in Medicine and Dentistry where approval of Statutory Council is mandatory. Development of wide-spectrum of economically viable and much needed professional courses in the forms of Fellowships, Diplomas, Degrees and Certificates.
    • Elevation of present infrastructure of DOME (Department of Medical Education) as University Centre for Education in Health Sciences and further augmentation of Continuing Education programmes in relevant disciplines.
    • Introduction of Distance Education Programmes in the areas of Health Sciences, Agriculture, Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences with the approval of Distance Education Council (DEC). Preparation of standard course material for such courses.
    • Introduction of e-learning in Health Sciences and effective use of Telemedicine facility. Preparation of self-financed certificate, diploma, vocational and online courses.
    • Further emphasis on foreign collaborations in select areas, tie-ups with foreign institutions with the approval of the Government for mutual benefit, encouragement for International exchanges, approaching the International agencies such as NIH, WHO, UNIDO, UNESCO, DAAD, Commonwealth Foundation, foreign universities, etc. for select programmes of national and international importance.
    • Strengthening of linkages with ICMR, DBT, CSIR, Public Health Foundation, National Rural Health Mission, NACO, etc. for research and extension programmes.
    • Continuing education programmes for teaching and non-teaching staff members. Arrangement for the special training of technical non-teaching staff members to improve their skills.
    • Development of Refresher Programmes for serving professionals and non-professionals.
    • Submission of proposal of constituent colleges to NAAC.
    • Organisation of atleast 80 CMEs, 10 National/Regional or State level Conferences and two International Academic Events.
    • Encouragement for participation in national and international Conferences / Seminars / Workshops and publication of research papers in refereed Scientific journals.
    • Introduction of biometric identification for entrance examinations, MCQs in question papers and central double valuation system as part of Examination Reforms.
    • Declaration of results of different University examinations within ten working days
    •  Establishment of Corpus Fund to take care of part of the financial requirements of the University in future.
    • Master Plan for New Campus of the University– Conceptualization and Execution – Ultramodern new campus with hi-tech facilities shall be developed on approximately 100 Acres of land in the vicinity of Belgaum for administrative and academic activities of the University. The construction of structures of Administrative Block, Examination Hall, Academic Hall, Teaching Block, Research Wing, Library, V.C. Lodge, Staff Quarters (teaching and non-teaching), Guest House, Reception Centre, Computer Centre, three Seminar Halls, Auditorium, Indoor-Complex, Canteen, Post Office and Bank, Cooperative Store, Hostels for boys and girls, etc.
    • Student Guidance Bureau, initiation of personality building programmes for students; galvanizing of Sports and Cultural Boards involving reputed sportspersons from teaching and non-teaching faculties, further strengthening of student utility services such as hostels and gymnasiums.
    • Involvement of students through National Service Scheme (NSS) for societal development programmes, programmes for weaker sections and healthcare; preparing socio-economic profiles in select areas and to identify lacunae in women welfare and suggesting remedial measures to overcome infanticide and female foeticide problems.
    • Emphasis on NSS activities for rain-water harvesting and awareness about global warming
    • Plastic free and Tobacco-free campus.
